Bloody Surface

Blood cell, 3D tomoholography, 3D prints, 3D video, Mixed media, Dimension variable, 2018

Liberating boundary is a way to escape from given identity. By means of technology, it enables to expand the boundary of oneself.

Process: 8.5 μm Live blood cell + 3D Holographic microscopy  = Virtual space

This work is made of the living red blood cells of the artist, Kim. Using Live Cell 3D Tomography Technology, the artist extracted the 8.5 μm red blood cells. The artist enlarged them to about 23,580 times, printed as a 3D object and displayed the expanded 3D virtual space. The audience can observe and explore the inner space of the red blood cells. They can experience the micron-sized cells with the enlarged physical representation. The technology is used as a medium for human-beings to see their cells without any limitation.
This work claims that the future referred to as Post City has the new surface of the positive interdependence between human and non-human as it is with the technology and blood cells. This new surface is beyond the physical limitations of nature.
This project is exhibited 2018/10/16-10/30 at Post Territory Ujeongguk, Seoul. and funded by Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture.
